GAME VIEWING, BIRDING Kariega Park, covering 662 ha, lies above the Kariega River valley. Valley Bushveld dominates its vegetation, which includes a wide variety of tree species, such as the impressive tree euphorbias. More than 20 game species may be seen and, to date, 150 species of bird have been recorded in the reserve. An added bonus is that this area is home to the magnificent crowned eagle. Location: Southern part of region; south of Grahamstown. Access: From the N2 (Port Elizabeth/Grahamstown), take the R33 (Salem/Kenton-on-Sea) which is located 13 km west of Grahamstown. The turnoff to the park is 14 km from Kenton-on-Sea and is clearly singposted. The R343 joins the R72 at Kenton-on-Sea. Accommodation: Fully-equipped, self-catering, log lodges (from R32 per person per night, minimum 2-night stay). Other facilities: Game viewing; hiking trails; swimming pool. Open: Throughout the year.
